The German intelligence agency, BND, said on Wednesday it had intercepted a phone call between Hezbollah and Iranian officials claiming that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had mistakenly ordered the August 21 chemical attack in a Damascus suburb.
Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, the head of the BND, told German lawmakers about the alleged intercepted phone call said to be between a high ranking member of the Lebanese Hezbollah organization and the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
Hezbollah and Iran support the Syrian government.
