How Americans Will Adapt to Lower Living Standards
Rick Newman
Get used to beans.
That’s one suggestion in Tyler Cowen’s new book, Average Is Over: Powering America Beyond the Age of the Great Stagnation. Cowen creates a stark image of a future U.S. economy in which most people either rocket toward the top or drift toward the bottom. A thinning middle class doesn’t mean people can’t work their way up any more, but it does mean it will be harder to muddle along with marginal skills or a soft work ethic, since a hollowed-out middle will no longer be able to shelter those who don’t have what it takes to make it to the top.
Americans will adapt. “Many of society’s lower earners will reshape their tastes...toward cheaper desires,” Cowen writes in Average Is Over. That’s where the beans come in, since they provide all the nutrition of fancier food at a fraction of the cost. “Don’t scoff at the beans,” Cowen encourages readers who might feel unsettled by his dystopian view of America’s future. Cooked with freshly ground cumin and pureed chili peppers, he insists, they can be quite tasty.

The Propaganda Narrative of a Peaceful Muslim Brotherhood

Activist Post
Three years after the Syrian destabilization began in earnest, it appears that the propaganda narrative surrounding the nature of the so-called “Syrian rebels” is wearing away as more and more Americans realize that the “rebels” are actually nothing more than Western-backed fundamentalists and mercenaries. However, while the propaganda revolving around Syria seems to be failing, it appears to be much more successful in regards to current events taking shape in Egypt.
Indeed, the narrative constantly played throughout the mainstream and, unfortunately, alternative media largely constructs the Muslim Brotherhood “opposition” as peaceful protesters who are merely fighting for democracy, free elections, and self-determination. However, as I have written on numerous occasions, the fact is that the Muslim Brotherhood is nothing more than a conglomeration of religious fanatics, dupes, and corrupt individuals of varying societal status. In addition, the Muslim Brotherhood is tied at the hip to Western intelligence, most notably that of the British and Americans.
Nevertheless, the tired propaganda of the corporate media which has been used in Egypt, Libya, and Syria is being used once again in Egypt and, unfortunately, is continuing unabated even by much of the alternative media.
Instead of Paul Ryan’s ‘Robin Hood in Reverse,’ Why Not a Robin Hood Tax?
October 29, 2013
Paul Ryan has advocated austerity budget measures. (AP/Jacquelyn Martin)
For House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan and the Republican Party’s unofficial austerity caucus, the shutdown and debt-ceiling fights did not end in defeat. As part of the deal to end reopen the government and avert a “full-faith-and-credit” crisis, they got an agreement to establish a House and Senate conference committee that is charged with pulling together a bipartisan budget plan.
Ryan makes little secret of his agenda. The Wisconsin Republican is already talking about implementing the “entitlement reforms” he’s been pitching for years. So no one should rule out the prospect that the committee will entertain proposals for the roll-the-dice experiments with Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid voucher schemes, hiking retirement ages, establishing means tests and reducing protections against inflation. At the same time, Ryan would reduce the corporate tax rate and eliminate the alternative minimum tax—completing the “Robin Hood-in-reverse” scenario that so appeals to austerity advocates.

I Spent 5 Years in Solitary For Non-Violent, Absurd Infractions Like Having Too Many Postage Stamps

It wasn't in a parallel universe – although it often felt that way – but right here in the Empire State, my home. While serving time in New York's prisons, I spent 2,054 days in solitary and other forms of isolated confinement, out of sight and invisible to other human beings – and eventually, even to myself.
After only a short time in solitary, I felt all of my senses begin to diminish. There was nothing to see but gray walls. In New York's so-called special housing units, or SHUs, most cells have solid steel doors, and many do not have windows. You cannot even tape up pictures or photographs; they must be kept in an envelope. To fight the blankness, I counted bricks and measured the walls. I stared obsessively at the bolts on the door to my cell.

"Ugg", said the White House. "We're totally offended. We have lots of friends. For instance, Latvinscandinovia and Englesbekistan. In fact, they came over just last night. And while we enjoyed their trust, we spied on them. Win-win."
Presidential spokesman James Carney stated, "Perhaps our strongest friendship is with Francesylvania. We have enjoyed a strategic partnership with them since before Columbus set sail. This is beyond dispute. And yes, I do descend from circus performers."
Anxious reporters attempted with deft perspicacity to locate Francesylvania on the map, and, giving up, accepted the news uncritically.

Nuclear fusion milestone passed at US lab
Paul Rincon
BBC
Harnessing fusion - the process that powers the Sun - could provide an unlimited and cheap source of energy.
But to be viable, fusion power plants would have to produce more energy than they consume, which has proven elusive.
Now, a breakthrough by scientists at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) could boost hopes of scaling up fusion.
NIF, based at Livermore in California, uses 192 beams from the world's most powerful laser to heat and compress a small pellet of hydrogen fuel to the point where nuclear fusion reactions take place.

Syrian Arab Army Offensive in the Qalamoon Mountains
October 30, 2013
This is the Syrian Arab
Army offensive in the Qalamoon Mountains. A little over 17,000 ISIS and
Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists are under siege with no area to retreat.
Explanation:
The terrorists are surrounded on both sides. After the recent defeat in
Sadad (Homs Governate), the insurgency is surrounded by SAA brigades
comprised of the 1st Army Corps, 4th Mechanized Division, and the
Revolutionary Guards. On the Lebanese border, Hezbollah soldiers from
Ba'albak have obstructed the retreat.
This battle will not end like Al-Qusayr; either the terrorists surrender
or face annihilation.

Amish gather throughout Ohio to hear about
Akron Children’s Hospital & the Hershberger story |
Activist Post
A back-and-forth fight between the state and a 10-year-old girl with leukemia has been raging for awhile. Ohioan Amish girl, Sarah Hershberger, was brought into national view when it was learned that a legal battle ensued over whether her parents, Andy and Anna, had any right to choose a natural cancer treatment for her.
Already this year, a Medina County, Ohio Juvenile and Probate judge ruled in the parents' favor - twice - when Akron Children's Hospital took legal action to force her to continue chemotherapy. Earlier this month, however, an appeals court ruling overturned the rulings and appointed a nurse-attorney to have limited legal guardianship over Sarah, saying: "...we are unwilling to adhere to the wishes of the parents" and "The beliefs and convictions of the parents can’t outweigh the rights of the state to protect the child." The ruling was to force her back into (experimental) chemotherapy.
Feisty Green Party Candidate Waging Spirited Campaign in Harlem
Nick Malinowski
Uncovered Politics
On September 24, Christina González, a Green Party candidate for the open District 7 New York City Council
seat in upper Manhattan, was arrested in a Harlem subway station on her
way to protest the hiring of former CIA Director and U.S. General David
Petraeus by the previously tuition-free City University of New York (CUNY).
Uncovered Politics

Gonzalez is determined not to let the arrest detract from her
campaign. She explained recently that the incident was prompted by the
fact the city’s public transportation has become prohibitively expensive for many New Yorkers. More than 1.6 billion people use the subway yearly in New York City, and while some view public transit for being “just for poor people,” the average New York straphanger makes $55,000 a year, hardly a working-class wage.
Gonzalez says she believes public transportation should be free for
the public, as it is in many other countries, and she typically asks
the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) attendant or police officers in
the station if they can let her on. Although this method has worked in
the past, on that particular day she ran into some officers from her
local Harlem precinct, who told the subway booth attendant not to cut
her any slack.

HOMS: CHRISTIAN TOWN OF SADAD FREED BY THE SYRIAN ARMY AND NATIONAL DEFENSE FORCES
This scene shows rows of rats belonging to the Jabhat Al-Nusra who terrorized innocent Christian villagers in Sadad. The Syrian Army put an end to that and freed all Christians.
Amid expected jubilation, the Christian population of Sadad, a lowly town in Homs breathed a sigh of relief as the SAA and NDF cleared out the last vestige of the Saudi-Wahhabist filth and put to death every criminal found hiding under a rock or inside the crevices of sewers. Yesterday, on the outskirts of the town, die-hard skunks were killed as they tried to re-infiltrate the town. They did not have a prayer as the SAA and NDF mowed them down like rows of corn. 39 IEDs were dismantled by SAA sappers and a Mercedes Benz automobile, stuffed with Saudi C-4 was rendered harmless, this in spite of the fact it carried over 300 lbs of explosive parked at the Al-Dallah Roundabout in the middle of the town. Dead criminals were listed as:

Carney forced to admit WH knew Americans could not keep healthcare plans

Throughout President Obama’s campaign for Obamacare, he repeatedly said Americans could keep their health care plan. White House press secretary Jay Carney was forced to admit Monday that statement wasn’t entirely true.
Once again, Fox News’ Ed Henry has attempted to hold Carney’s feet to the fire, asking direct questions about President Obama’s marketing of Obamacare.
“The president, when he was trying to get the law passed, repeatedly said, if you currently have health insurance you will be able to keep your plan,” Henry said. “This morning David Axelrod was pressed on that point and said, the majority – the vast majority – will be able to keep their plans. He no longer works at the White House. From that podium, will you admit that when president said, if you have a plan, you’ll get to keep it, that that was not true?”
Carney said that the president had said all along that there were going to be changes brought about that would create changes to the minimum standards. But after rambling on, he finally admitted the truth.
“So it’s true there are existing health care plans on the individual market that do not meet those minimum standards and therefore do not qualify for the Affordable Care Act,” Carney said.

Report: Milk Could Skyrocket To $8 A Gallon If Farm Bill Not Passed
CBS DC
October 29, 2013
The fight over renewing the nation’s farm bill has centered on cuts to the $80 billion-a-year food stamp program. But there could be unintended consequences if no agreement is reached: higher milk prices.
Members of the House and Senate are scheduled to begin long-awaited
negotiations on the five-year, roughly $500 billion bill this week. If
they don’t finish it, dairy supports could expire at the end of the year
and send the price of a gallon of milk skyward.
KLTV reports that the price of milk could reach $8 a gallon.
“We are pretty much at the mercy of the people that are going to pay us. We have no control over the milk price,” dairy farm manager Bear Vanderwier told KLTV.

Syria Spillover Violence in Lebanon Raises Alarms
Jamie Dettmer
VOA News
October 29, 2013
Lebanon’s army is trying to quell deadly clashes between Lebanese supporters and opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. One soldier died yesterday (Oct 28) and several were wounded in the northern city of Tripoli as army units deployed in a bid to curb a week of fighting between warring sectarian neighborhoods.
The seven days of clashes in Lebanon’s second largest city have left at least 17 dead and more than 100 wounded, say government officials. The fighting is prompting worries once again that spillover violence from the civil war raging in neighboring Syria will trigger widespread sectarian conflict in Lebanon.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Miqati sought to reassure Lebanese on Tuesday (Oct. 29) saying the country’s security forces have received “clear orders to restore calm and impose security in Tripoli.”
The fighting the past week between residents of Bab al-Tebbaneh, an Alawi neighborhood that supports Assad, and Sunni Muslims in the district of Jabal Mohsen is the worst Syrian-related gun battle seen in Lebanon in weeks.
The adjacent neighborhoods have had a long history of conflict that stretches back to the 1975 Lebanese civil war.

Egyptian authorities have arrested an Islamist militant jailed over the assassination of Anwar Sadat, for plotting bomb attacks on behalf of al Qaeda since his release from prison in 2012, security sources said on Tuesday.
Nabil al-Maghraby, a former naval intelligence officer who the sources said was a key al Qaeda operative, was arrested on Sunday. He has been linked to an ex-army major who tried to assassinate the interior minister in September, the sources said.
Maghraby had been released from jail after serving 31 years for taking part in the 1981 assassination of Sadat. The Egyptian leader was killed by Islamist members of the military opposed to his 1979 peace treaty with Israel.

A rare moment of coordination between the Syrian government and rebels enabled 1,800 civilians to flee a besieged town on the edge of Damascus on Tuesday, but thousands remain trapped with little food, water or medicine.
A source in the Ministry for Social Affairs said the evacuation from Mouadamiya had gone ahead with the help of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and some civil groups.

Conspiracy Theorists Are the Greatest Challenge to Democracy … According to … Here’s who …

Western-Installed Dictator Regimes around the world. No, no, no, no, no.
The new enemy is the conspiracy theorists. It is those who question

mainstream lies and liars such as BBC. Basically, it is you … and me.
Allow me to wade through all the fillers and present you with a few telling excerpts from this BBC report:
Are conspiracy theories destroying democracy?
The more information we have about what governments and corporations are up to the less we seem to trust them. Will conspiracy theories eventually destroy democracy?

The Iranian “Smoke and Mirrors Threat” and Washington’s “Human Rights Card”
Sam Muhho
Land Destroyer Report
Land Destroyer Report
In
a cycle of habit borne out repeatedly in the mainstream western media,
demonization and fear mongering against Iran is picking up pace again in
the face of attempts by the new Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to
rebuild relations with the west and work toward international
cooperation. The techniques and methodologies used by the west in
perpetuating the geopolitically-motivated, neo-imperialist, agenda
against Iran often come across in the media as clumsy and awkward in
their reasoning. Before delving into the hard geopolitical reality, a
much needed word on the disingenuous leveraging of human-rights against
countries such as Iran is critical.
Iran and the Western “Human Rights Card”
In a recent Fox News report,
Iran’s human rights record is criticized by Benjamin Weinthal, a
Berlin-based fellow of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD).
His arguments are employed to argue against the feasibility of pragmatic
negotiations with Iran as according to his logic, Iran is not a regime
“worthy” of practical negotiation with. To use the reported human right
violations against religious minorities and Christians and particular as
geopolitical leverage to argue against diplomacy and negotiation with
Iran wreaks of compromised, corporate-financier motivation, especially
when juxtaposed with the intimate collaboration of the United States and its allies with one of the most repressive regimes in the Middle East (and the world), Saudi Arabia.
While
Iran is often berated for its short-comings, these short-comings pale
in comparison to the atrocities perpetuated by the Saudis. In Saudi
Arabia, no Jewish or Christian worship is allowed and possession of a
Bible could warrant you various brutal punishments. Saudi Arabia has
been notorious for rigid campaigns against Bible possession and religious symbols, especially in airport customs searches including the shredding of any Bibles found and in one case, harassing a nunwho was passing through Jeddah on a transit flight.
Saudi Arabia, in cooperation with the United States, is currently promoting a sectarian-extremist-driven destabilization campaign
in Syria whose byproduct has resulted in nightmarish lives for people
across religious lines which can be described as nothing less than premeditated genocidewith
former CIA official Robert Baer predicting campaigns against Christians
in Syria and Lebanon during an interview with Seymour Hersh for his
excellent 2007 article, “The Redirection.”

DNA Downloaded from the Internet? Leading Geneticist Says Yes!

Activist Post
The digitizing of DNA in order to transform naturally evolving life forms into programmable computer code has been an ongoing mission of the elite. In 2010, the White House gave the all-clear to this type of research in the name of "clean energy, pollution control and medicine," which included the ability to "manipulate DNA of organisms to forge new life forms."
Craig Venter and his J. Craig Venter Institute is at the top of the pyramid which is directing this research. As far back as 2003, a BBC article titled "Warning on Gene 'ID Cards'" cited Craig Venter as a leading scientist in gene mapping who, at the time, was offering the "very rich" a chance to buy their gene map for $710,000. This threatens to set up a division of gene class where elites would have access to potentially life-saving information, while the underclass could be discriminated against. The short above-linked article concludes with an even more critical warning by Dr. Helen Wallace of GeneWatch that, "What we could end up with is a massive DNA database by the back door." (Source)
This warning clearly went unheeded as DNA database news comes out almost daily in 2013. Now Craig Venter has revealed his latest concept: "a gadget that could teletransport medicine and vaccines into our homes or to colonists in space."

So, like Nietzche said, God is dead. Phew. Glad that's settled. Now, let's have some tea!"

But since then, no one has been able to get rid of the notion. Until today. This is a historic day, which is why we are standing in front of the statue of "The Great Emancipator". "Not yet. Where did you get this information? Sumerian literature is practically defunct. And what we do have is fragmented. I'm highly skeptical."

"He was a Sumerian and a caveman. His brain was infected with cave fungus, which explains why he imagined such a ridiculous concept! And everybody hated him. But since then, no one has been able to get rid of the notion. Until today. This is a historic day, which is why we are standing in front of the statue of "The Great Emancipator". Are you happy now, citizen?"
"Not yet. Where did you get this information? Sumerian literature is practically defunct. And what we do have is fragmented. I'm highly skeptical."
"Shut up, moron. Can't you just accept everything uncritically?" hissed an adjacent reporter.

Mainstream Reports: DHS Battens Down the Hatches: “This Could Be All Hell Breaks Loose Day”

A few weeks ago we saw what happens when the Electronic Benefit Transfer system is threatened in any way. When access to food stamps went offline for just a few hours, the masses began to panic in what were essentially isolated hot spots where law & order totally broke down.
This Friday, because of guidelines set forth in the American and Recovery Investment Act, the 48 million Americans receiving nutritional food assistance from the government are going to see cuts to their monthly distributions.
According to the USDA, the average monthly food benefit for an American family is about $272. Come November 1st, that will be reduced by $36 – or about 13%.
Now, that may not seem like a big number, until you consider that the people depending on these distributions are already struggling to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads.
The government is, in essence, reducing their food availability by 13% overnight.
Most people aren’t even paying attention, but one organization certainly is, because they know exactly what can happen when you start taking food out of peoples’ mouths.

Public Wants Labels for Food Nanotech – and They’re Willing to Pay for It
Activist Post
New research from North Carolina State University and the University of Minnesota finds that people in the United States want labels on food products that use nanotechnology – whether the nanotechnology is in the food or is used in food packaging. The research also shows that many people are willing to pay more for the labeling.
“We wanted to know whether people want nanotechnology in food to be labeled, and the vast majority of the participants in our study do,” says Dr. Jennifer Kuzma, senior author of a paper on the research and Goodnight-Glaxo Wellcome Distinguished Professor of Public Administration at NC State. “Our study is the first research in the U.S. to take an in-depth, focus group approach to understanding the public perception of nanotechnology in foods.”
The researchers convened six focus groups – three in Minnesota and three in North Carolina – and gave study participants some basic information about nanotechnology and its use in food products. Participants were then asked a series of questions addressing whether food nanotechnology should be labeled. Participants were also sent a follow-up survey within a week of their focus group meeting.

Journalism Witch Hunt Continues: Armed Guards Raid Reporter’s Home

Audrey Hudson woke up at 4:30 on the morning of August 6 to find her home surrounded by armed agents from the Maryland State Police, the Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
The agents had a warrant to search for unauthorized firearms and a “potato gun” that Hudson’s husband, Paul Flanagan, allegedly purchased.
Hudson and Flanagan were held in their kitchen while the agents searched their home. Hudson said Miguel Bosch, a Coast Guard investigator who had worked at the U.S. Marshals Service, asked her if she was the same “Audrey Hudson” who had written “the Air Marshal stories” for The Washington Times.
Hudson is an award-winning former investigative journalist who helped expose problems within the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Air Marshals Service.
Something Is Killing Life All Over The Pacific Ocean – Could It Be Fukushima?

Activist Post
Why is there so much death and disease among sea life living near the west coast of North America right now? Could the hundreds of tons of highly radioactive water that are being released into the Pacific Ocean from Fukushima every single day have anything to do with it?
When I wrote my last article about Fukushima, I got a lot of heat for being “alarmist” and for supposedly “scaring” people unnecessarily. I didn’t think that an article about Fukushima would touch such a nerve, but apparently there are some people out there that really do not want anyone writing about this stuff.
Right now, massive numbers of fish and sea creatures are dying in the Pacific Ocean. In addition, independent tests have shown that significant levels of cesium-137 are in a very high percentage of the fish that are being caught in the Pacific and sold in North America. Could this have anything to do with the fact that the largest nuclear disaster in the history of mankind has been constantly releasing enormous amounts of radioactive material into the Pacific Ocean for more than two years? I don’t know about you, but to me this seems to be a question that is worth asking.
Tiananmen car crash may have been suicide attack, officials claim
London Guardian
October 29, 2013
Police investigating Monday’s car crash at Beijing’s Forbidden City are searching for information on two suspects from the Muslim Uighur minority. A day after a car ploughed through a crowd, crashed and burst into flames, killing five people and injuring 38, government sources have said the “major incident” may have been a suicide attack.
“It looks like a premeditated suicide attack,” a government source told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Two bystanders, including a Filipino woman, were killed when a sport utility vehicle veered inside a barrier separating a crowded pavement from a busy avenue and then drove toward Tiananmen Gate, which stands opposite Tiananmen Square. Three passengers inside the car were also killed.
The 38 injured were among the crowds in front of the gate, where a large portrait of Mao Zedong hangs near the southern entrance to the former imperial palace. Three other Filipinos and a Japanese man were among the injured, police said, but there were no immediate details on their conditions.

Food Bank CEO Suggests Welfare Cuts May Spark Riots

The CEO of the largest food bank in America has
suggested that planned cuts in food stamp benefits set to take effect on
Friday could spark riots.

Image: Margarette Purvis (YouTube).
Margarette Purvis, the president and CEO of the Food Bank for New York City, told Salon.com
that the expiration of stimulus funds, which will see the Supplemental
Nutrition Assistance Program reduced by $5 billion dollars, will have an
“immediate impact” and represent a recipe for civil unrest.
“If you look across the world, riots always begin
typically the same way: when people cannot afford to eat food,” said
Purvis, adding that families face the “daunting” prospect of losing a
whole week’s worth of food every month.
The nationwide cut will take 76 million meals off the
table of poverty-stricken New Yorkers alone, equating to about 16 meals a
month for a family of three. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
has labeled the cut to the SNAP program “unprecedented” in “depth and
breadth.”
As we previously highlighted, even the mainstream media
is invoking the threat of riots that could ensue as a result of the food
stamp cut, with Fox News’ Neil Cavuto linking the issue
to the Department of Homeland Security’s recent $80 million dollar
outlay on armed guards to protect government buildings in upstate New
York.

Local Departments Fortify Police State With Armored Personnel Carriers

Activist Post
All across the country, preparations are being made for a massive assault on an enemy that has yet to be publicly defined. The preparations involve the procurement of Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) or Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs), military equipment, and tactical training. These preparations, however, are not being undertaken by the US military in response to a potential outside invasion but, instead, by local police departments towards what one must logically assume is a domestic threat.
Indeed, police and sheriff’s departments all across the country, from Michigan and Ohio to Texas, California to Idaho to South Carolina, and from Maine to Florida are hardening their forces with militarized body armor, weaponry, tactical gear, and APCs coming straight from the US military at bargain prices.
But who, exactly, is the enemy that American police must feel the need to become so battle-hardened against? Even if one were to, for the sake of argument, allow the ridiculous narrative of the threats of domestic terrorism to be true, where are the armies of Muslim fundamentalists inside of America? Or are the police actually preparing to defend American citizens against some foreign military invasion by another major power?

Vaccine Injuries: What Everyone Needs to Know Before and After Vaccinations

Activist Post
Vaccinations are becoming more problematic than anyone probably ever would have thought, especially since they are touted as ‘preventive healthcare measures’ and studies indicate that flu vaccines are not effective, including the U.S. CDC admitting, “During years when the flu vaccine is not well matched to circulating viruses, it’s possible that no benefit from flu vaccination may be observed.” (Source)
The reasons for public concern are numerous, but two are the most vexing. They are:
- Adverse Reactions to vaccines, plus lack of compensation for hundreds of thousands of cases of adverse reactions reported to VAERS due to vaccines (See VAERS reports).
- Vaccine Mandates for daycare, elementary school thru college, and employment in the healthcare field.

14 Incredible Photos of Brazilian Activists Liberating Beagles from Cruel Lab
Will Potter
October 28, 2013

Animal rights activists in Brazil rescued nearly 200 beagles last week from a laboratory that was experimenting on the dogs for the pharmaceutical industry.
According to one activist I spoke with in Brazil, the protest began with about 40 people outside of Instituto Royal in San Roque because the lab had been accused of animal cruelty. As the crowd grew to about 150 people, they could hear the cries of the dogs. Some activists entered the building, opened the cages, and began rescuing them.
Nearly 200 dogs were immediately taken to veterinary clinics in the area. They were found in filthy conditions. Some of them were mutilated and other had tumors. One dog had no eyes.
Since the rescue, Instituto Royal has been shut down pending a government investigation. The lab says that even if police recapture stolen beagles, they will be put up for adoption.
Yet, following the lead of the U.S. animal testing industry, the lab is also saying saying that the open rescue was an act of terrorism.
Does this look like terrorism to you?

Russell Brand May Have Started a Revolution Last Night
The revolution itself may not be televised, but on last night's edition of the BBC's Newsnight, viewers may have witnessed the start of one.
Actor-slash-comedian-slash-Messiah Russell Brand, in his capacity as guest editor of the New Statesman's just-published revolution-themed issue, was invited to explain to Jeremy Paxman why anyone should listen to a man who has never voted in his life.
"I don't
get my authority from this preexisting paradigm which is quite narrow
and only serves a few people," Russell responded. "I look elsewhere for
alternatives that might be of service to humanity."
And with that, the first shots of Russell's revolutionary interview were fired.

Spain summons US ambassador over claim NSA tracked 60m calls a month
Paul Hamilos
London Guardian
October 28, 2013
The Spanish prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, has summoned the US ambassador to explain the latest revelations to emerge from the files leaked by Edward Snowden, which suggest the National Security Agency tracked more than 60m phone calls in Spain in the space of a month.
Spain’s European secretary of state, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, is meeting
James Costos as the White House struggles to contain a growing
diplomatic crisis following accusations that the NSA monitored the
phones of scores of allies, including the German chancellor, Angela
Merkel.
El Mundo newspaper reported on Monday that it had seen an NSAdocument that showed the US spy agency had intercepted 60.5m phone calls in Spain between 10 December 2012 and 8 January this year.
An NSA graphic, entitled “Spain – last 30 days”, reportedly shows the daily flow of phone calls within Spain, and that on one day alone – 11 December 2012 – the NSA monitored more than 3.5m phone calls. It appears that the content of the calls was not monitored but the serial and phone numbers of the handsets used, the locations, sim cards and the duration of the calls were. Emails and other social media were also monitored.

Comrade Brezhnev responded, "Perhaps you misunderstood me, citizen? The purpose of this announcement was to vaguely address the issue, and then eat caviar. We tested the caviar already for barium, and there was none in it. So why are you spoiling my lunch?"
But the Angry Citizen just grew angrier." Can I speak to somebody else? Could someone, anyone, please tell me why the sky is being poisoned?"
Just then, the distinguished Dr. Kalashnikov intervened, thankfully correcting him. "Perhaps your mother never told you, it is impolite to speak about poison before a meal? Now. Do you want caviar, or don't you?"
"What I want is answers. And for you guys to start using contractions, if you don't mind?"

Thousands of activists march on Washington to rally against NSA spying

Activist Post
Thousands of activists joined forces on Saturday to protest the NSA surveillance of both domestic and international targets by marching on Washington, D.C.
This comes shortly after it was revealed that the NSA spied on the phones of 35 world leaders. Furthermore, both France and Mexico have recently responded quite critically to U.S. surveillance in their countries, though Director of National Intelligence James Clapper issued a cleverly worded denial of the reports.
On Saturday, it was also reported that 21 countries are in the process of creating a UN resolution to condemn NSA surveillance.
The march was organized by Stop Watching Us, a coalition of over 100 groups ranging from the ACLU to the Electronic Frontier Foundation to FreedomWorks to Demand Progress to the Council on American-Islamic Relations to Occupy Wall Street and many more.
The Faltering Financial Transaction Tax And The Future Of Wall Street
Jeremy Scott
Forbes
The financial meltdown in 2008 was supposed to change how banks and Wall Street were regulated and taxed. The idea that trading was too volatile and that banks were engaged in numerous risky transactions caught hold. There was a growing belief that financial institutions and investment firms should help fund the cost of future bailouts. However, five years later little has changed. The United States got the Dodd-Frank Act, a heavily watered-down regulation package, and some of the European Union pushed ahead with a financial transaction tax. But Treasury and the SEC are struggling to implement the former, and the latter has run afoul of the complicated European legal framework.
The United States’ efforts to re-regulate the financial sector have been largely nonexistent. President Obama’s attempt to tax excess risk (incorrectly referred to as a bank tax in most press coverage) never went anywhere. The Dodd-Frank Act was largely drafted by two lawmakers with strong ties to investment firms, banks, and Wall Street, and thus isn’t exactly a return of Glass-Steagall. A financial transaction or financial activities tax has never made much headway in Congress despite being proposed (the latest effort by Sen. Tom Harkin and Rep. Peter DeFazio hasn’t even been considered in a committee). In short, the United States has declined to take the lead in reacting to the 2008 crisis, either through new regulation or new taxes.

New Narrative For Syria: Assad's Biological Weapons
![]() |

Activist Post
With recent developments surrounding the Syrian crisis and the political rug being jerked from underneath the Anglo-American imperialists by Syrian/Russian diplomacy, the increasingly poor public relations of the death squads, inter-death squad fratricide, and the growing rift between the United States and Saudi Arabia, it might appear that the assault on Syria which was imminent only months ago is drawing to a close. Taken in tandem with the deal drawn up between Russia and Syria regarding the destruction of chemical weapons and Assad’s constant victories against the death squads, one may easily be tempted to believe that the imperialist quest for the destruction of Syria has already largely come to an end.
Unfortunately, however, the Anglo-Americans seem, at best, ambivalent about their future plans for Syria. This means that the world is not quite out of the woods yet when it comes to the possibility of a general military action against Syria.

FLOW OF WISDOM: The Road to Damascus, Syria breakdown, staged attacks and more with Brandon Turbeville

Flow of Wisdom
First it was the Government shutdown and now its the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare. Just because the media is not talking about Syria don’t think that some deals are not being made. Several big meetings have been taking place here recently. Read, President Obama meets with Pakistani prime minister in attempt to ease tensions
But notice how more and more Americans are beginning to realize that the political rhetoric being performed on the global stage is getting played out. The people spoke out against an attack on Syria. And of course the corporate media released propaganda to the U.S. reporting only what they were instructed to.
That is why my hat is off to the true journalist that stick their neck on the line to get “the real story.”
Especially the journalist within the corporate media structure. Do not believe that everyone in the mainstream media is apart of the elite’s agenda. Some recognize what’s going on and continue to push the envelope and eventually break off. Hence, Ben Swann.

Tarpley’s National Press Club Lecture on Russian Fleets of 1863 to Air This Weekend on C-SPAN3
Webster G. Tarpley, Ph.D.
C-SPAN Video Library
October 25, 2013
Recorded by C-SPAN3 on September 24, 2013
Historian Webster Griffin Tarpley talked about the contribution of Russian Tsar Alexander II to a northern victory in the U.S. Civil War. He said that the Imperial Russian government had issued an ultimatum to Britain and France specifying that if those powers should intervene on the side of the Confederate States of America they would immediately find themselves at war with the Russian Empire. Mr. Tarpley marked the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Russian Baltic Fleet in New York City on September 24, 1863, and of the Russian Pacific Squadron in San Francisco on October 12, 1863. He argued that it was the presence of those fleets that provided the final deterrence. Russia was the only country to extend direct military support to the Lincoln government.
“Commemorating the Russian Fleets of Autumn 1863” was an event of the McClendon Group, held in the Zenger Room of the National Press Club.

Political Debt Compromise Will Be Austerity Not Real Economic Solutions
With the recent government shutdown finally having been resolved, albeit only temporarily, the focus of Washington politicians from both parties is once again focused on the issues of “cutting spending,” “entitlement reform,” and “unfunded liabilities. This time, however, with Obamacare largely out of the debate and set to coast on to become a fact of American life, the possibilities of “compromise” and the Grand Bargain of austerity cuts coupled with the full implementation of Obamacare look more likely than ever before.
Of course, while the corporate media promotes compromise as the backbone of a free society, the fact is that any compromise between Democrats and Republicans will necessarily result in the worst of both worlds, as only the most odious elements of the potential outcomes will almost always be selected for implementation. Indeed, one would be hard pressed to think of a situation in which Democrats and Republicans “came together” and formed a compromise which did anything other than shred the Bill of Rights, implement austerity cuts, raise taxes on the working class or some other tragic farce designed to act as a solution to an entirely manufactured crisis.
